Portland Science Center to Open on Maine Wharf

MAINE’S FIRST EXHIBITION CENTER TO

OPEN IN PORTLAND

Science, History, Education to be Focus of Exciting World-Class Exhibits

Portland, ME | June 2, 2015 | – Maine’s first science center is getting ready to open its doors in the heart of the Old Port.

The Portland Science Center, the first and only exhibition center of its kind in Maine, will be a new entertainment and educational beacon for New England communities, hosting some of the most engaging, unique, and entertaining traveling attractions ever presented.

Portland Exhibits LLC, a subsidiary of The Gold Group, announced today that the new center should be opening in late-June or early-July. They are in the process of outfitting the second and third floors of a new building on the historic Maine Wharf; renovating floors and walls and installing special environmental controls and noise suppression systems to accommodate the various displays.

Located at 68 Commercial Street, the new center will utilize more than 15,000 square feet of premium exhibition space. The Gold Group, a New England company responsible for creating and managing the new Science Center, specializes in presenting educational and premier exhibits with a goal of illuminating minds through truly unique and interactive components.

“The Portland Science Center is a welcome and unique addition to the many great destination attractions we have in Portland,” said Portland Mayor Mike Brennan. “With its world class exhibitions and commitment to working with area schools, businesses, and non-profits, the Portland Science Center will be a robust addition to our community.”

The Portland Science Center is poised to serve as Maine’s leading destination for learning and exploration within the world of blockbuster exhibitions.

“The vision for the Portland Science Center is to be the first and foremost venue to showcase the world’s most important and extraordinary exhibitions for the first time ever to the state of Maine and Northern New England”, says Joe Gold, Principal for The Gold Group. “We are a local company that is excited to be bringing world-class educational exhibits to Maine audiences. We’re investing a considerable amount in the new exhibition space including renovations, promotion, and advertising. The spinoff economic impact will help all merchants in the Old Port as we encourage our visitors to shop and dine locally when they attend the exhibition.”

The Portland Science Center will also be a job creator. Portland Exhibits, LLC will host a job fair on-site at 68 Commercial St. this Friday, June 5th from 11AM to 2:30PM. Both full and part time jobs are available including Managerial, Customer Service, Exhibition Staff, and Retail positions. Interested applications should bring an updated resume.

Another goal is to utilize the center as an educational venue for local educators and students alike. Showcasing subject matter from education and STEM fields, to cultural phenomena and the majestic marvels of the world, the center will enlighten and engage participants through premier exhibitions and attractions that leave an awe-inspiring and lasting impact. School groups can experience the exciting confluence of art and science for a unique visual journey.

“We believe in the power of learning brought to life through entertainment”, said Michael Lembo, Senior Director for The Gold Group. “The Portland Science Center will be a place where people can explore truly unique scientific and cultural exhibitions unlike anything that Maine has ever seen.”
